Frequently Asked Questions
We know choosing the right software can raise a lot of questions. That’s why we’ve put together answers to the most common ones
What is Grayrock Trading Journal?
Grayrock Trading Journal is a structured trading journal designed to help traders record, organise and review their trading activity.
It brings trades, strategies, setups, performance data, mistakes, psychology and observations together in one place so you can better understand your trading process and learn from your history.
Why should I use a trading journal?
A trading journal helps you look beyond individual wins and losses.
By consistently recording and reviewing your trades, you can identify patterns in your strategies, execution, discipline and decision-making. Over time, this can help you understand what is working, where mistakes are recurring and what areas deserve more attention.
What information can I record for each trade?
Grayrock Trading Journal is designed to capture both the result of a trade and the context behind it.
Depending on the available features, trade records may include information such as instrument, direction, entry and exit, position size, profit or loss, strategy, setup, market session, notes, tags, observations, mistakes and review comments.
This creates a more useful trading record than simply storing entry and exit prices.
Can I track different trading strategies and setups?
Yes. Trades can be organised by strategy and setup so you can review how different approaches perform over time.
This helps you understand which strategies you are actually using, how consistently you follow them and how their results compare.
Can I review trading mistakes and psychology?
Yes. Grayrock Trading Journal is designed to make mistakes, psychology and trading discipline part of the review process.
You can record observations such as hesitation, early entry, late entry, overtrading, exiting too early, breaking trading rules or other behavioural patterns and use your trading history to identify recurring issues.
What performance information can I analyse?
Grayrock Trading Journal is designed to provide a clearer view of trading performance across different periods, strategies and trading activity.
Performance analysis may include areas such as profit and loss, win rate, risk and reward, strategy performance, trading sessions, instruments and performance trends.
The objective is not simply to show statistics, but to make your trading history easier to understand and review.
Can I use Grayrock Trading Journal for different markets?
Yes. Grayrock Trading Journal is intended to support traders working across different financial markets and instruments.
This may include forex, indices, stocks, commodities and cryptocurrencies, depending on the trade data and import capabilities supported by the platform.
Can I import trades from my broker or trading platform?
Yes. Grayrock Trading Journal is designed to make bringing your existing trading history into the platform as simple as possible.
It supports importing trade data from CSV, XLSX and HTML files, together with a Raw Mapping option for files that use different or custom data structures.
For supported platform exports, Grayrock Trading Journal can automatically recognise data from:
MetaTrader 4 (MT4) • MetaTrader 5 (MT5) • cTrader
Simply export your trading history from the supported platform and import the file into Grayrock Trading Journal — there is no need to manually convert the file into a Grayrock-specific format first.
For other data formats, Raw Mapping allows you to map available fields to the appropriate Grayrock Trading Journal fields before completing the import.
There is no limit on the amount of historical trade data you can import, allowing traders to bring months or years of existing trading history into their journal for performance analysis and review.
Does Grayrock Trading Journal provide trading signals or recommendations?
No. Grayrock Trading Journal is a journaling, analysis and performance-review tool.
It does not provide personalised financial, investment or trading advice, and it is not intended to tell users what financial instruments to buy or sell.
Trading involves risk, and past performance does not guarantee future results.
Is Grayrock Trading Journal suitable for day traders and longer-term traders?
Yes. The journal is designed around the process of recording and reviewing trading decisions rather than requiring one particular trading style.
It can support day traders, scalpers, swing traders and longer-term traders who want a structured way to understand their trading history, strategies and decision-making process.
